Qingpu is famous on its authentic Jiangnan aura with a dense river network in west Shanghai. The modern urbanization brought in motorway system and dismantles the traditional boat traffic. Highway bridge replaced stone bridge, sidewalk became subordinate of motor track.
The scenario of a relaxing bridge-walk is now a deadwood.The new infrastructure development at west Qingpu will contain many motorway bridges in its river network, while the riverbank will offer continuous pedestrian alleys.
Here we try to separate the sidewalk from the motorway, and link it with the riverside alleys. The experience of stepping and sloping up and down will return respect and joy back to pedestrian.We work closely with the bridge structure engineer on this 38m long bridge. We expect it can give pedestrian a happy memory.
